the EPU,
the left corners of the memorial building roof and cornice,
the left top corners of the columns, the left top corner of the
right
URN,
the letters in AMERICA, the E in CENT and the top left corners
of the NE in ONE. Also notice that the third and fifth column splits on
their left side. This may or may not be a function of the trail
die. The
offset direction for all
the trails is 330 degrees.

seen
from Lincoln’s ear, up through his

COPPERCOINS 1999P-1DR-003

DESCRIPTION: Strong to very strong fluting lines under columns
2, 3, 11 and 12. Very strong step deviation,
reaching down to the
bottom
step, under columns 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. Strong step deviation
under left post with some step deviation under the right post. If you
look carefully, you can see that the fluting line under column 2
extends well into the shrubs below. Although faint, trail lines can
be seen from other design elements. The bottom of some of the
letters in EPU, the A in STATES, the ED in UNITED and the ER
of AMERICA all show indications of trails.
Stage “D” shows equal strength, however, the intensity
of the lines has lessened and some of the trail lines have faded.
This is only the second wavy step found
that affects the bottom
step.
The offset direction for this die is 200 degrees.
Stage “C”
The above picture shows the trail from the left URN and trails seen
from the bottom of ED of UNITED.
STAGE "C" STAGE
"D"
A prominent die scratch through WE is seen above. A die dot
above the right base maybe a pre die clash die marker.
Stage
“C"
Notice the heavy die scratching through both the date and LIBERTY.
This was more than likely done to eradicate an obverse die clash.
Stage "D" was found by Charles
Fantasia and is aptly named
"The wart on Lincoln's nose". Photo
by Charles Fantasia
Stage “E”
The obverse die has been changed and the only die marker on
the obverse is a small die dot below the first 9 of the date.
DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS –
vertical die
scratching around the bust of
Lincoln to remove a die clash.
Reverse is LDS - die clashes in
bays 3 and 9.
Stage
"D", obverse is LDS - die break on Lincoln's
nose has developed, This maybe the reason
why the obverse die was replaced.
Stage “E”, obverse is EDS – die has been
changed.
Small die dot under the
first 9 of the date.
Reverse is VLDS – die clashes in
bays
3 and 9. Small die dot by
the period before UNUM
NOTE: This is the strongest wavy step that has been found to date.
It will definitely be interesting to see
an EDS of this variety for it
appears
that the fluting lines actually curve as they progress towards
the bottom of the steps. Also, more trail lines may be seen from other
design elements. This is a major and listed as WDDR-006;
and 1999P-1DR-003
