DESCRIPTION: This is a combination trail die with wavy steps. Single
fluting line extension, into the stylobate, is seen under columns 2, 3,
11 and 12. Light to moderate step deviation is seen under columns
5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. The trail lines are carried down to the word CENT
and are seen on the lower left corners of those letters. The offset
direction is 190º. While a combination of trail lines from other design
elements beside the stairs and also
the stairs is not a rare occurrence,
it
is not that common. This combination also shows the relationship
of trails to wavy steps, which are one in the same thing, only in
different locations. This die was found by Louis
Schaeffer of Maryland.
