21 February, 2010 - If you take a look over in
Coppercoins, you will find that the trail dies listed are no longer considered doubled dies. Both Bob and myself feel that
there is just to much difference in the appearance and the process of how trail dies are made to classify this anomaly
type under that definition. For the present, those dies on Coppercoins will keep their file designation number as is so that
the numerical progression is consistent.
Other
important news is the Mike Diamond, who is now the columnist for Coin World's "Collectors Clearing House"
, has an article in the works for Trail Dies in the near future for that column. Please make sure that you read that entry and if possible, give
it some feedback to the editor. I also talked to Randy Campbell of ICG at the last coin show in hopes of developing an interest with a grading company who will encapsulate trail
dies. While nothing is set in stone, Randy and I will continue our conversation in April at the next CFCC coin show. I also
hope to be able to talk to J. T. Stanton at that show as well, with hopes to have him
assign his F/S numbers to some of the more outstanding trail dies.

3 March,
2010 - I am happy to say that trail dies have carried over into the year 2010. Oddly enough, the first trail die
was found on the reverse of a doubled die obverse. This die is now listed as 2010P-1DER-001T on traildies.com, 2010P, WDDO-001
on Wexler’s site and 2010P-1DO-001 on Coppercoins site. Conratulations
go to David Mulberry of Florida for finding this coin.
