DESCRIPTION: Strong to moderate trails on the left side
of
the die, tapering off
to the right. Very strong trail line from the
U of UNITED that crosses over the N. While the I is not affected,
the TED has trail lines and distortion.
Affected is the word STATES. While the trails are not as
strong as in UNITED, all the letters, except the last
S have
some indication of trails. Also
affected are the letters in EPU,
the upper left portion
of the Memorial building and some
letters
in AMERICA. All these trail lines have an offset direction
of
340 degrees.Oddly
enough, the word ONE has two letters,
the N and E affected
by trails in an offset direction of 200
degrees, which makes
this a dual directional trail die.
This die was found by
Patrick Gaughan of Penn.
DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS –
a plate bubble
issue precludes finding any die
markers.
Reverse is MDS – none noted.

DESCRIPTION: Prominent
trail lines can be seen from the
NE of ONE, with an offset direction
of 090 degrees. Weak trail
lines can be seen from EN of CENT, on a reciprocal
bearing
of 270 degrees. The roughness seen between the letters of
ONE CENT is from the die scraping along the hub face and is
not
caused by die cleaning. This die was found by
Katelyn Schaeffer of Maryland. This die is very similar
to 1993P-1DER-054T, however, the offset direction has a
10
degree difference.
DIE MARKERS: Stage
“C”, obverse is LDS – none noted.
Reverse is LDS – vertical die
scratching seen in all bays. Die
gouge in bay #3. Die scratch under
the last A of AMERICA. Notice the
die deterioration doubling seen
under CEN of CENT.

DESCRIPTION:
A single trail line is seen
coming from the T of
CENT. This die has been heavily abraded to remove a die clash.
The one
thing that is interesting about this die is the difference
seen between the trail line and the die abrasion
lines. The offset
direction is 070 degrees.
DIE
MARKERS: Stage “C”
– obverse is LDS – small die gouge
below the two nine digits of the date.
Reverse is LDS – heavy die abrasion
to remove a die clash from the reverse
die. Both dies appear to be of a similar
die
state, which would lead one to
believe that the die clash happened
early on in both dies. It is obvious that
the obverse die was replaced, while the
reverse
die was still used in service.
