98PR1.jpg

DESCRIPTION: A complicated “trail” with two different directions.

The first offset direction, 240 degrees, is highlighted with black

arrows, while the 310 degree offset is highlighted with white arrows.

The above picture shows trails and distortion from the tops of the

letter in EPU. These trail lines are at 310 degrees.

98PR2.jpg
98PR3.jpg

Trail lines are seen on the letters in STATES and also the word OF.

98PR4.jpg

Trails are also present on the word AMERICA

98PR5.jpg

The tops of all the columns are again affected by the 310 degree

extension as is the scrolling on the cornice. Notice that the left

corners of the roof and the cornice have 310 degree extensions.

98pr14.jpg

This pattern of extensions follows through down to the corners

of the left edge of the stylobate and base. Also notice the heavy

distortion and trails on UNITED.

98PR7.jpg
98PR8.jpg

Even the two urns have trails from their left top corners, as well

as the word ONE.

98PR9.jpg

While the majority of the design elements have been extended

towards 310 degrees, there is evidence that a second direction

is also present on this die.The CE of CENT and the D of

UNITED show a set of trail lines with a direction of 240 degrees.

P8PR10.jpg

This dual direction is best illustrated with the E of EPU, which

shows a trail from the left top corner of that letter in the direction

of 310 degrees and another trail from the lower left corner in a

direction of 240 degrees.

98PR13.jpg

DIE MARKERS: Stage “A”, obverse is LEDS – die dots on

either side of the loop of the

                                             second nine in the date.

Reverse is LEDS – light die clash in

bay 4 and 9 (see photo of posts).

Die scratches from the left base tip.

Die dot over the left base corner.
