DESCRIPTION: Trail lines can be seen on the letters of LIBERTY, with an offset direction of 320 degrees. Faint trail lines can also be seen on the R and S of TRUST.

DIE MAKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – heavy die scratching, especially in back of Lincoln’s head.

Reverse is LDS – Heavy die clash in bays # 2 and 3. The Y of LIBERTY shows in bay # 2 as a die clash.

 

1983P-1DEO-002T                                    350°

DESCRIPTION: Moderate trail lines are seen from the tops of the letters in LIBERTY, with an offset direction of 350 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – large, strong die scratch over the date. Radial die scratching is seen around the perimeter of the die.

Reverse is LDS – Die crack from the left cornice tip, through the I of UNITED and to the rim. Die crack from the right cornice tip, through the leg of the R in AMERICA to the rim. Heavy northwest to southeast die  scratches.

This die was found by Joshua Haynes of Alabama.

 

1983P-1DEO-003T                                   000°

DESCRIPTION: Short, light trail lines are seen from the tops of the letters in LIBERTY. The offset direction appears to be 000 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is LMDS – none noted.

Reverse is LMDS – die crack from the left base tip to the rim. Small retained die break on the lowest level of the left side of the stylobate. Die crack from the base, up through the stylobate under bay # 10. Die crack from the right base tip to the rim.

 

1983P-1DEO-004T                                    260°

DESCRIPTION: Mushy trail lines from the left bottom of the letters in LIBERTY. Also observed is extra, ramped thickness to LIBER. This is a late die state coin and earlier die states may show heavier, longer trail lines.The offset direction is estimated at 260º.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – die deterioration flow lines are seen through the date.

Reverse is LDS – die crack from the right base tip to the rim.

 

1983P-1DEO-005T                                    000°

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines are seen from the top left corners of the letters in TRUST. The offset direction is 000 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – numerous die scratches throughout the obverse. East / West die clash remnants on the jacket across from the date.

Reverse is LDS – die clash remnants in bay # 3. Strong die scratching on the reverse with a stronger diagonal die scratch in Bay # 10.

This die was found by Bob Piazza of Florida.

 

1983P-1DEO-006T                                    190°

DESCRIPTION:  Trail lines can be seen from the bottom left of the letters in LIBERTY. Also noted are two trail lines from the bottom of the 1 and 9 of the date. The offset direction is 190 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – none noted.

Reverse is LDS – A die crack is seen from right base tip to the rim. Two parallel die scratches are over the NT of CENT.

1983P-1DEO-007T                                     350°

DESCRIPTION: Moderate trail lines are seen from the tops of the letters in LIBERTY. Also noted are trail lines from the 198 of the date. All lines have an offset direction of 350 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is ELDS – heavy crisscrossed die scratching on the entire obverse die.

Reverse is ELDS – die cracks are seen from both base tips to the rim and from the right cornice edge to the E in AMERICA.

 

1983P-1DEO-008T                                    340°

DESCRIPTION: Particularly strong trails die for the obverse. Moderate to strong trail lines are seen from the tops of the letters in LIBERTY, and IN GOD WE TRUST. The offset direction is 340 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – none noted.

Reverse is MDS – a die gouge is seen in the lower crotch of the N in CENT. Another die gouge is seen on the bottom of the left leg to the rim. There are vertical die scratches seen in the field to the right of the Memorial building.

NOTE: This die was found by Jeremy Gardner.

 

1983P-1DEO-009T                                      200°

DESCRIPTION: Moderate, mushy trail lines are seen from the bottom left corners of the letters in LIBERTY. Also seen are trail lines, in the same direction, from the bottom of the digits in the date. The offset direction is 200 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – a small die gouge is seen to the right of the first T in TRUST.

Reverse is VLDS – a die crack is seen from the left corner of the roof, through the D of UNITED and into the rim. Another die crack is seen from the right corner of the cornice, through the R of AMERICA and into the rim. Heavy, horizontal die scratching is present on the reverse.

1983P-1DEO-010T                                     020°

DESCRIPTION: Moderate trail lines are seen from the BERTY of LIBERTY and IN and the G of GOD. The offset direction of these lines is 020 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – none noted

Reverse is LDS – a die crack is seen from the left base tip to the rim. Another die crack is seen from the right base tip to the rim. There is also another die crack from the left roof corner and into the D of UNITED.
