1983P – 1DER Files

1983P-1DER-001T                                    330°

DESCRIPTION: Typical letter distortion seen on the tops of the letters in UNITED STATES OF with slight extension seen on the left top corner of the F in OF. Also noted is the ramped extra thickness on some letters. The offset direction is estimated to be 330º. An earlier die state may reveal trial lines.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – light die scratching, from the northeast to the south west, through LIBERTY, the eye socket and in from to Lincoln’s nose.

Reverse is LDS – A die gouge is seen on top of bay 3.

This die was found by Joshua Haynes of Alabama

1983P-1DER-002T                                    000°

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines are seen from the letters in EPU. Also seen are trail from the top left corners of the letters ERI of AMERICA. The offset direction is 000 degrees. The condition of this coin is far below optimum and I feel that other trail lines will be seen on a coin of better condition.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – none noted

Reverse is MDS – vertical die scratching is seen on the left side of the die. Another other die markers are lost due to the condition of the coin..

NOTE: This die was found by Louis Schaeffer.
