DESCRIPTION; Light fluting line extension is seen into the stylobate under columns 2 and 10, with moderate fluting line extension under column 11. There is moderate step deviation under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – two small die dots under the mint mark

Reverse is LDS – small die gouge under the middle arm of the E in CENT

DESCRIPTION: Light fluting line extension, into the stylobate, under column # 3.  Light step deviation, with an offset direction of 180 degrees, under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – none observed

Reverse is LDS – die gouge, next to the rim, between the E and N of CENT.

DESCRIPTION: Light step deviation, with an offset direction of 180 degrees, under columns 5, 6 and 7.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – none observed

Reverse is LDS, – die gouge next to the rim over the T of UNITED. Three small die gouges in the O of ONE.

DESCRIPTION: Moderate fluting line extension, into the stylobate, under columns 2 and 3. There is moderate step deviation under columns 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, with emphasis on the left side.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – light die scratch through the E of WE.

Reverse is LDS – small die gouge on the right lower side of column # 12.

 

1987D-1DER-005T                                    060°


DESCRIPTION: Distortion and extra thickness is seen on the tops and sides of the letters in EPU. Trail lines are seen on the TE of UNITED, the ST of STATES and the MER of AMERICA. The offset direction is 060 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – none noted. Mint mark position is used for a die marker.

Reverse is MDS – none noted.

1987D-1DER-006T                                   300°

DESCRIPTION: Moderate trail lines are seen on the last S of STATES, the word OF, the EPU, the left corners of the stylobate and the word ONE. The offset direction is 300 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – none noted.

Reverse is LDS – a strong flow line is seen from the bottom of the C in AMERICA.  A small die gouge is seen to the left of the T in CENT.

1987D-1DER-007WS                                 180°

DESCRIPTION: Moderate step deviation is seen under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8. Fluting line extension is seen under column 3 entering into the stylobate. The offset direction is 180º.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C “, obverse is LDS – a small die gouge is seen to the right of the R in TRUST. A group of small die gouges is seen under the E of LIBERTY. Also notice the die deterioration forming between the letters of LIBERTY. Some die damage is seen on Lincoln’s nose.

Reverse is LDS – a group of small die gouges is seen in the N of CENT.

1987D-1DER-008T                                   030°

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines are seen from the motto EPU, the ES of STATES and the word OF. The trails are flat and broad giving the letters affected a seemingly extra thickness. This is caused by the hub not being tilted, but laying flat against the die when the die moves. The offset direction is 030°

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B“, obverse is MDS – two small die dots are seen below the E of LIBERTY.

Reverse is MDS – A die gouge is seen in the upper bar of the E in UNITED.

NOTE: This die was found by George Antenucci.

 

1987D-1DER-009WST                              190°

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines are seen going into the stylobate, under columns 1, 2, 3, 11 and 12. Trail lines are seen under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8 traveling into the stairs. Trail lines are also seen from the bottom of the letters EN of CENT. The offset direction is 190°.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “A“, obverse is EDS – a small die gouge is seen in the field above the ER of LIBERTY.

Reverse is EDS – die damage is seen in bay 5.
