DESCRIPTION: Moderate step deviation, with an offset direction of 180 degrees, with emphasis on the left side, under columns 5, 6 and 7.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – small die gouge under the E of LIBERTY

Reverse is LDS – die crack from left cornice tip to the N in UNITED and into the rim. Die crack from the left corner of the Memorial’s roof up to the D in UNITED.

 

1991P-1DER-002WS                               180º

DESCRIPTION: Light fluting line extension, into the stylobate, under columns 2 and 3. Light step deviation under columns 6, 7 and 8, with an offset direction of 180 degrees and emphasis on the left side.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – small die gouges by the first 9 of the DATE. Two die scratches to the right of the bow tie.

Reverse is MDS – die gouges under the right Memorial building base.

DESCRIPTION: Light “trails”, with an offset direction of 330 degrees, affecting the tops of columns 4 and 5, the tops of the letters TED of UNITED and parts of EPU. Notice the extension on the tops of the letters in EPU. The “trails” on TED cross over the horizontal bars of the affected letters.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “A”, obverse is EDS – none noted

Reverse is EDS – die gouge on the top of the left post. Die gouge over the left base of the Memorial building.

DESCRIPTION: Moderate to light step deviation is seen under columns 5, 6 and 7, with emphasis on the left side. This die was found by Louis Schaeffer of Maryland.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – two small die gouges under the right edge of Lincoln’s bust.

Reverse is MDS – none noted.

 

1991P-1DER-005WS                                  180º

DESCRIPTION: Light step deviation is seen under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8. The offset direction is 180 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – none noted.

Reverse is LDS – a die crack is seen from the left corner of the cornice to the rim. A die crack is developing along the base line and into the field above the NT of CENT.

 

1991P-1DER-006WS                                 190º

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines are seen entering into the stylobate under columns 2 and 3. Light step deviation can be seen under columns 5, 6 and 7. The offset direction is 190°

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B “, obverse is MDS – heavy, diagonal die scratches are seen above the ERTY of LIBERTY. A small die dot is seen to the right and above the date.

Reverse is MDS – die scrapes are seen under the word AMERICA. A small die gouge is seen between the rim and the  left base of the memorial building.

NOTE: This die was found by Louis Schaeffer.

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines are seen from the top of the letters in the motto EPU. Trails are also seen from the right, upper corners of the memorial building and the ER of AMERICA. The offset direction is 030º.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C“, obverse is LDS – a small die gouge is seen below the U in TRUST. Small die gouges are seen under Lincoln’s chin and around the date.

Reverse is LDS – none noted
