DESCRIPTION:  Light, short “trails” from the bottom of LIBERTY and the 19 of the date, with an offset direction of 180 degrees. Notice the extra thickness that is sometimes associated with “trail” dies on the bottom of the 1 and 9.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – diagonal die scratching under Lincoln’s throat. Long diagonal die scratches under the RTY of LIBERTY.

Reverse is MDS. This die is coupled with 1993P-1DER-037, “trails” on the EPU.

 

1993P-1DEO-002T                                    350°

DESCRIPTION: Very light “trails” from the top of LIBERT of LIBERTY, with an offset direction of 350 degrees. The B in LIBERTY does show some distortion on its top.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS– three die gouges above the IB and E of LIBERTY.

Reverse is MDS – none noted.

DESCRIPTION: Light to moderate trail lines are seen from the left top of the letters in LIBERTY. Letter distortions, with short trails are seen on the OD of GOD and the W of WE. Notice that all trails are in the same direction. This is not seen on die deteriorated dies, where the flow lines are radial in direction. There is also some letter distortion and indicators of trails on the word TRUST. The offset direction is 320º.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – die dot between the I and B of LIBERTY.

Reverse is LDS – diagonal die scratch in the top of bay 11.

 

1993P-1DEO-004T                                    060°

DESCRIPTION: Light trail lines are seen from the tops of the two 9’s in the date. Notice the distortion in the form of notching. The offset direction is 060º. This die was found by Louis Schaeffer of Maryland.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – die gouge by the front curl of Lincoln’s hair. An old die gouge is seen on the vest.

Reverse is MDS – none noted.

DESCRIPTION:  Very similar to 1993P-1DER-004T, light trail lines are seen from the tops of the two 9s and the top and center of the 3 in the date. Notice the distortion in the form of notching. The offset direction is 060º.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – die crack in the throat area.

Reverse is MDS – die chip on the side of the left cornice.

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines can be seen on “IN GOD WE TRUST”. The offset direction is 330 degrees

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – none noted

Reverse is MDS – a die dot is seen in the upper part of bay 2. A series of small die dots can be seen in the field to the right of column 12.

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines can be seen from the bow tie and from the bottom of the letters of LIBERTY. The offset direction is approximately 100°.

MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – NW-SE die scratches through IN GOD and the date.

Reverse is MDS – Die clash remnants show in the memorial bays. A die crack and chip can be seen on column 1.
