DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – small die gouge to the upper right of the 8 in the DATE. Small die gouge is seen to the upper right of the Y in LIBERTY.

DESCRIPTION: Moderate trails from the left top of the letters in EPU. The last S in STATES, OF and the AMERI of AMERICA also have trails as does the top left corners of columns 7 through 12 and the scrolling on the upper edge of the cornice.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – none observed.

Reverse is LDS – strong die clash in bay 9. Die gouges to the right of the T in CENT.

NOTE: This die was discovered by Edward Fletcher of Florida.

DESCRIPTION: Light trail lines form the tops of the U and I of PLURIBUS and the UNU of UNUM. The offset direction is 010 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – die gouge to the lower left of IN.

Reverse is MDS – small die dot on top of the third shrub.

DESCRIPTION: Light trail lines from the E and PL of PLURIBUS. Light trail lines at the bottom of the T and A of STATES. The offset direction is 080 degrees.

Also see are trails from the E of CENT and the NE of ONE with an offset direction of 260 degrees.

Reverse is MDS – die dot on the right side of column 4.

DESCRIPTION: Strong step deviation under columns 7 and 8 with moderate step deviation under column 6. Trail lines can be seen on the C and A of AMERICA. Design extension is seen on the E and N of CENT.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – none observed.

Reverse is MDS – die gouge between the U of UNITED and the first column. Die scrapes from the right base towards the NT of CENT.

DESCRIPTION: Fluting line extension can be seen under columns 1, 2, 10 and 11, with a slight indication of step deviation seen under the left urn. Strong step deviation can be seen under columns 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 and also the G of the designer’s initial, with on offset direction of 170 degrees.

DIE MARLERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – die scratching is seen around the date.

Reverse is MDS – heavy die scratching below the Memorial building, especially in and around ONE. Notice the cross 0ver trail on the E of CENT

DESCRIPTION: Fluting line extension is seen entering the stylobate under columns 2 and 3. Moderate step deviation occurs under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8. Trail lines are seen on some of the letters of the EPU. All the trail lines, the fluting line extension and the step deviation have an offset direction of 200 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – die gouge under the E of LIBERTY.

Reverse is LDS – diagonal die scratch in bay 5. Small die gouge under the N of ONE.

NOTE: This is a major die due to the combination of wavy steps and

trails. This die was found by Louis Schaeffer.

 

1998P-1DER-038T                                    240°

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines from the bottom letters of the motto, the D of UNITED, and STATES OF AM. What appears to be a trail line on the E of CENT may be a die striation instead. The offset direction is 240 degrees.

DIE MARLERS: Stage “B”, Obverse is MDS – A light die scratch under the nose.

Reverse is MDS – A heavy die gouge to the right and close to the T of CENT.

NOTE: This die was found by Bob Piazza of Florida.

DESCRIPTION: A rather strong wavy step die that has fluting line extension, into the stylobate, under columns 2 and 3. There is pronounced step deviation under columns 5 and 6 with moderate deviation seen under columns 7, 8 and 9. The offset direction is 190 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C, obverse is LDS – none noted.

Reverse is LDS – die chip under the right urn. Die gouge to the left of column 1 and over the corners of the stylobate.

NOTE: This die was found by Jeremy Gardner.

DESCRIPTION: Moderate step deviation is seen under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8. The offset direction is 180 degrees.

DIE MARKERS; Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – none noted.

Reverse is MDS – die gouge under the E of UNITED. Two small die gouges between the U of UNITED and the Memorial building.
