DESCRIPTION: Moderate to strong trail lines are seen from the EPU, STATES, OF, AMERI of AMERICA, and the tops of the columns. The offset direction is 330 degrees. This die is very similar to others for 1998P and care must be taken not to confuse them. The die markers and strength of the trails for each are different.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, Obverse is MDS – A nice remnant of a die clash is seen next to the chin and lips.

Reverse is MDS – Strong die gouges (most likely feeder finger damage) can be seen running southeast on the right side of the reverse. Light die scratches are seen in all the memorial bays.

DESCRIPTION: Light trail indications can be seen from the top right corners of the UNI of UNITED, STATES, the O in the word OF, the top portions of EPU, and the lower N of ONE. The approximate offset direction is 300 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, Obverse is MDS – No verifiable markers identified.

Reverse is MDS – A north – south die scratch is seen next to the last memorial column.

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines are seen from the top of the letters in the EPU, the ATES of STATES, the O in OF, the MERIC of AMERICA, the EN of CENT and the NE of ONE. The offset direction is 330 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C “, obverse is LDS – a small die dot is seen below the 1 digit of the date.

Reverse is LDS – none noted

DESCRIPTION: Light step deviation is seen under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8. The offset direction is 190 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B “, obverse is MDS – a small die gouge is seen between the date and Lincoln’s bust

Reverse is MDS – a die gouge is seen between columns 12 and the CA of AMERICA.

DESCRIPTION: Light trail lines from the E and PLU of PLURIBUS, and STATES OF. Light trail lines on the letters T and E of UNITED. Dual directional trail lines are seen on ONE CENT. Offset directions are 080, 190, and 260 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, Obverse is MDS – None Found

Reverse is MDS – Die clash remnants in memorial bay #9.  Die chip on upper column 2.

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines are seen under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8 that produce wavy steps in the stairs. Also seen is a single trail line from the C of CENT. All trail lines have an offset direction of 180°.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B “, obverse is MDS – a die gouge is seen under the diagonal bar of the N in the word IN.

Reverse is MDS – a die crack is seen from the top of the I in AMERICA to the rim. Die damage is seen to the left of the right vertical bar of the N in CENT.

1998P-1DER-057T                   070° & 270°

DESCRIPTION: Trails with an offset direction of 70 degrees can be seen from EPU, parts of STATES, of, A from AMERICA, the designer’s initials (FG), the east stylobate, right urn, upper portions of some columns, the bottom of the building, and NT from CENT.

Additionally, at an offset direction of 275 degrees, trails come off of the lower SW corner of NE from ONE and the upper NW corners of ENT from CENT. The obverse is listed as 1998 1DEO-015T and also has duel trails, thus this die pair has four sets of trails. This die is very similar to 1998-1DER-034T and comparison photos are below.

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines are seen from the last S of STATES, the O in OF, the letters in the motto EPU, cornice and the tops of the columns, the designer’s initials, the ER of AMERICA and the left URN. While this die is similar to others that have an offset direction of 330º, the die marker found and the pattern trail line strengths and weaknesses are different.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B“, obverse is MDS – a small die dot is seen above the G of GOD

Reverse is MDS – none noted.

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines are seen from just about all design elements. The offset direction is 330°. There is a mixture of some die scrape lines in with some of the trail lines.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B“, obverse is MDS – die scratches can be seen in and around IN GOD, LIBERTY and the date.

Reverse is MDS – die scratches are seen through the N and E of ONE.
