DESCRIPTION: Strong, sharp fluting line extension, into the stylobate, under columns 1, 2 and 3 with weaker fluting lines under columns 10 and 11. Notice the extension under column 2 enters into the shrubbery below that column. Strong step deviation under columns 5 through 8 with an offset direction of 200 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – small die dot above the O and D of GOD

Reveres is MDS – none noted

NOTE: This was the fourth wavy step recorded (third date) and is considered a major trail die. This is listed in Wexler’s files as WDDR-001

DESCRIPTION: Moderate, multiple fluting line extension, into the stylobate, under columns 2 and 3. Light to moderate step deviation is seen under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8 with emphasis on the left side.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – small die chip on Lincoln’s nose.

Reverse is LDS – die gouges under UNITED. Two small die gouges under the E of AMERICA.

DESCRIPTION: Light fluting line extension, into the stylobate, under column 3. Moderate step deviation is seen under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, Obverse is MDS – none observed

Reverse is MDS – extra column on left side of Lincoln’s chair. Small die dot is seen on the D of UNITED.

NOTE: This die has an extra 6th column to the left making this a doubled die.

DESCRIPTION: Moderate fluting line extension, into the stylobate, under columns 2 and 3. Light step deviation is seen under columns 5, 6 and 7.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, Obverse is MDS – small die dot to the left of the 1 in the date.

Reverse is MDS – small die gouge to the right of Designer’s initials.

DESCRIPTION: Moderate fluting line extension, into the stylobate, under columns 2 and 3. Moderate step deviation is seen under columns 5, 6 and 7, with an offset direction of 190 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – two small die gouges in the loop of the second9. Obverse die has many die dots on its surface.

Reverse is MDS – the reverse, like the obverse, has many die dots (not gas bubbles) with the majority on the east side of the die.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is MDS – obverse die has been changed. A die crack is seen from below Lincoln’s eye to a point just below the first T of TRUST.  A small die gouge is seen above and to the left of the U in TRUST.

Reverse is LDS – remains unchanged.

NOTE: Stage “C” die was found by Jon Walker.

DESCRIPTION: Moderate fluting line extension, into the stylobate, under columns 1, 2 and 3. Strong to moderate step deviation is seen under columns 5 through 8 with an offset direction of 190 degrees.

Reverse is EDS – die scrape in bay 5 emerging into the field below the stairs.

Reverse is MDS – die scrapes thru the NT of CENT.

Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – die crack from Lincoln’s forehead into his hair.

Reverse is LDS – die scrape in bay 5 has faded. New die scrape above the N in ONE.

DESCRIPTION: Moderate fluting line extension, into the stylobate, under columns 2 and 3. Light steps deviation under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – small die gouges in front of Lincoln’s chin.

Reverse is MDS – die crack from right cornice, to the R of AMERICA, to the rim.

DESCRIPTION: Moderate step deviation is seen under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – none observed

Reverse is MDS – die crack across the M of UNUM. Small die break on the left cornice edge. Small die gouge is seen on the upper curve of bay 1.

DESCRIPTION: Multiple, light to moderate fluting line extension, into the stylobate, under columns 11 and 12. Moderate step deviation is seen under columns 5 through 8 with emphasis on the right side.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – small die gouge over the Y of LIBERTY.

Reverse is MDS – die gouge is seen in bay 10 and under the stairs. Die crack from right cornice edge to rim.

Stage “C”, obverse is LMDS – die gouge has faded.

Reverse is LDS – Die crack has evolved two die chips; one on the upper cornice edge and the other in the I of AMERICA.

 

1999P-1DER-010T                                    330°


DESCRIPTION: This is a strong trail die with the anomaly affecting the EPU, the left corners of the memorial building roof and cornice, the left top corners of the columns, the left top corner of the right URN, the letters in AMERICA, the E in CENT and the top left corners of the NE in ONE. Also notice that the third and fifth column splits on their left side. This may or may not be a function of the trail die. The offset direction for all the trails is 330 degrees.



DIE MARKERS: Stage “B “, obverse is MDS – a large die crack is seen from Lincoln’s ear, up through his hair and into the W of WE. Also seen is a die crack through Lincoln’s eye with a small die dot in front of that crack. A die gouge is located over the U of TRUST.

Reverse is MDS – a small die dot is seen between the LU of PLURIBUS. A die gouge is seen just to the right of the M in AMERICA. Die gouges are seen on the inside and the lower outside right edge of the O in ONE

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C “, obverse is MDS – the obverse die has been changed. A large die crack is seen in the back of Lincoln’s head. A die crack is seen from the bottom of Lincoln’s coat to the rim. Another die crack is seen just to the right of that die crack. Another die crack is seen from the bottom of the shoulder to the rim just to the left of the VDB

Reverse is LDS – a die chip with a die crack is seen on the left edge of the E in CENT

NOTE: It will be interesting to see if this reverse die made it through another obverse die change
