1999P-1DER-049T                         060°& 240°

DESCRIPTION: This is a dual directional trail die with trail lines in reciprocal directions. Moderate trail lines are seen on the word STATES with distorted notching seen on the right side upper termini. Moderate trails also seen on the word CENT and on the designer’s initials. Notice the trails from the E and N of CENT and the first S of STATES have trail lines in both directions. Also noted are trail lines from the E and N of UNUM in a direction of 240 degrees, along with the E and D of UNITED. The Lincoln statue on the reverse also suffers from distortion, giving it a clown like appearance with large, elongated head, an unusual tie and balloon like knees and legs. This distortion may or may not be a direct cause from trails; however, it has been encountered on the other die that has been examined.

DIE MAKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – none noted.

Reverse is MDS – die break in the upper part of bay 1. Small die chip is seen in the middle of column 2. Lincoln’s statue has two indented lines enclosing a slightly raised area from the top of his head. The exact cause is unknown.
