DESCRIPTION: Very light trail lines are seen from the U and M of UNUM. The statue of Lincoln shows distortion along with the upper stairs in the Memorial building. While this is not the classic trail die, there are enough indications for it to be just that, a trail die. The offset direction is 330 degrees

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C “, obverse is LDS – none noted

Reverse is LDS – heavy striated lines are seen through the word AMERICA. Another line is seen in the right memorial building base which enters the field to the right of the T in CENT.

DESCRIPTION: Light trail lines are seen on the letters of EPU, the AMERI of AMERICA and the right corner of the cornice. Also seen, but not pictured are trail lines from the TES of STATES. The offset direction is 040 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B “, obverse is MDS – a die dent, next to the rim, is seen above the E of WE.

Reverse is MDS – a heavy, short die scratch is seen to the right of the T in CENT.

DESCRIPTION: Short, light trail lines are seen primarily on the word AMERICA. Faint trail lines are also seen on some of the letters in STATES and the F in OF. The offset direction is 030 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B “, obverse is LMDS – none noted

Reverse is LMDS – a die break is seen on the upper left of column 3. Two die gouges are seen under the last A in AMERICA.

DESCRIPTION: Light step deviation is seen under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8, with a trail line present under column 3 as well. Also seen are faint trail lines from the top left corners of the UN of UNITED. The offset direction for this die is 190 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C “, obverse is LDS – a die gouge is seen in the field below the IB of LIBERTY.

Reverse is LDS – a die gouge is seen next to the rim just to the right and below the designer’s initials.

DESCRIPTION: Moderate step deviation is seen under column 5, 6, 7 and 8 with trail lines entering into the stylobate under columns 10, 11 and 12. The offset direction is 180 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C “, obverse is LDS – a series of three die gouges is seen under the last T of TRUST.

Reverse is LDS – a small die dot is seen under the lower right side of the C in CENT.

DESCRIPTION: Moderate step deviation is seen into the lower part of the stairs under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8. Also seen is a trail line passing through the stylobate under column 3. The offset direction is 180 degrees

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B “, obverse is MDS – numerous, variable sized die dots are present on the obverse.

Reverse is MDS – numerous, variable sized die dots are present on the reverse as well.

DESCRIPTION: Moderate step deviation is seen under column 5, 6, 7 and 8, as well as trail lines passing through the stylobate under column 12. Also noted are trail lines from the designer’s initials and the N of ONE. The offset direction for these trail lines is 180 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C “, obverse is LDS – a die dot is seen over the left side of the U in TRUST. A die crack is seen from Lincoln’s ear into the hair.Reverse is LDS – a die gouge is seen under the designer’s initials. A die crack is seen from the lower left serif of the E in CENT to the rim.

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines are seen from the left top corners of the letters in EPU, the cornice knobs and the top left corners of the columns. The offset direction is 330 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B “, obverse is MDS – a die crack is seen from the right eyebrow of Lincoln up and into the hair.

Reverse is MDS – a series of three die gouges are seen below the left base line of the Memorial building. Another die gouge is seen in the middle of the E in ONE. Another die gouge is seen below and to the right of the E in CENT.

NOTE: This die was found by Louis Schaeffer.

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines are seen from the last S of SATES, the word OF, from the top of the letters in the motto EPU and the tops of the columns and knobs in the cornice. The offset direction is 330°

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B “, obverse is MDS – a small die gouge is seen below the word IN.

Reverse is MDS – a die chip is seen on the left side of the left URN.

NOTE: This die was found by Cal Goddard.

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines are seen from the letters in the word CENT. The offset direction is 090°.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C “, obverse is LDS – die damage is seen above the L of LIBERTY. Two die dots are seen above the second 9 in the date

Reverse is LDS – die damage is seen to the left of the O in ONE. Two small die dots are seen to the left of column 1.
