DESCRIPTION: This is a combination trail and wavy step die. Moderate step deviation can be seen under columns 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, with moderate to strong fluting line extension under columns 10, 11 and 12.

The moderate trails can be seen affecting the letters E, R, I, C and A of AMERICA. The offset direction of both the trails and wavy steps is 160°. Notice the crossover trail on the letter A.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – die dot is seen high above the I of LIBERTY.

Reverse is LDS – die dot is seen between the12th column and the last A of AMERICA. Two die gouges under the first S of STATES.

NOTES: A major die. This was found by Joshua Haynes of Alabama.

DESCRIPTION: This is a late die state coin that shows mushy trail lines from the tops of the letters in EPU. Also affected is the Memorial building stairs with a loss definition.

Trails are also encountered on the tops of some columns and the ATES of STATES. The offset direction appears to be 350 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – none noted.

Reverse is LDS – die dot between the O and N of ONE.

NOTE: This die was found by Patrick Gaughan.

DESCRIPTION: Light trail lines are seen from the tops of the letters in EPU. The offset direction is 320 degrees.

DESCRIPTION: this is a very strong trail die that shows trail on the tops of UNI of UNITED, all the letters in STATES, the word OF, the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and the ERICA of AMERICA. Also present are trail lines from the cornice, the left corner of the roof and the cornice, the top of all the columns and the top of the right URN, there are also trail lines present on the left corners of the stylobate and the NE of ONE. All the trail lines have an offset direction of 330 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B “, obverse is MDS – light die gouges are seen in and around the first two digits of the date.

Reverse is MS – a small die gouge is seen under the right side of the N in CENT.

DESCRIPTION: Light trail lines are seen from the corners of the stylobate on the right side of the memorial building, the designer’s initials and the T of CENT. The offset direction is 090 degrees.

Reverse is MDS – a small die gouge is seen above the right hand bushes on the memorial building. A small die gouge is seen under the left leg of the N in CENT

NOTE: This die was found by Aisha Shahid. The coin is a broad strike and is the first error related coin to have been found with trails.

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines are seen from the right corners of the roof and cornice of the Memorial building, the E of AMERICA, the designer’s initials, the right corners of the stylobate and the right bottom corners of the NT of CENT. The offset direction is 080 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C “, obverse is LDS – none noted.

Reverse is LDS – die scratches are seen through the last S of STATES, OF and the A of AMERICA.

DESCRIPTION:  Looking almost exactly like 2000P-1DER-014T, this is a very strong trail die that shows trails on the tops of ITED of UNITED, all the letters in STATES, the word OF, the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and the ERICA of AMERICA. Also present are trail lines from the left corner of the roof and the cornice, and the top of all the columns. There are also very faint trail lines present on the left corners of the NE of ONE. The statue is also very much thicker than normal coins.  All the trail lines have an approximate offset direction of 330 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B “, obverse is MDS – light die scratches into the field from the bottom of the beard.

Reverse is MS – Light die scratches on the tops of memorial bays 6 & 7.   The example studied had machine doubling on ONE CENT, the bottom of the memorial base and FG

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines are seen from the letters in STATES, the AM of AMERICA, the E of ONE and the word CENT. The offset direction is 060°.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C “, obverse is LDS – a die gouge is seen in the field to the lower left of Lincoln’s bust.

Reverse is LDS – two die gouges are seen in and around the D of UNITED.
