DESCRIPTION: This is another major with column extension under just about every column. Strong fluting lines under columns 2, 3, 11, and 12. Strong step deviation under columns 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 with moderate step deviation under the left post (urn) and a trace of deviation under the right post (urn). The offset direction is 190 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – small bar next to the G in GOD.

Reverse is MDS – die gouge between the N and E of ONE.

 

2001D-1DER-002WS                               180°

DESCRIPTION: Light step deviation is seen under columns 5, 6 and 7.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – die crack between the R and T of LIBERTY.

Reverse is MDS – die gouge on the top of the N of CENT. Die dot in the first U of UNUM.

2001D-1DER-003T             050°& 160°& 350°


DESCRIPTION: A multi directional trail die that has three set of lines. The first set with an offset direction of 050 degrees can be seen as lines from the tops of the letters in EPU. The second set of trail lines can be seen from the bottom of the letters in UNUM and also the RIC of AMERICA; the offset direction of these lines is 350 degrees.  The third set of trail lines is encountered on the scrolling atop the cornice and on the UNI of UNITED. This is the first die to be found with more than two sets of trail lines in different directions.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “A”, obverse is VLDS – there is a series of small die gouges in and around the date. Another series of die gouges can be seen in the field below the word IN.

Reverse is EDS – none noted.

NOTE: The uniqueness of this die makes it a major trail die. This die was found by Jeremy Gardner

DESCRIPTION: Moderate, sharp trail lines are seen from the top left corners of the letters in the EPU. The offset direction is 320 degrees. This die is coupled with an obverse trail die, 2001D-1DEO-002T

DIE MARKERS: Stage “A”, obverse is LDS- multiple small die gouges above the VDB. Multiple small die gouges in and around the date.

Reverse is EDS – none noted.

DESCRIPTION: Light trail lines are seen from the top right corners of the letters in the EPU. Also seen are trails from the top of the left URN, from the tops of the right side columns, from the right corners of the stylobate, the designer’s initials and the lower right corner the T in CENT. The offset direction is 050 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – vertical die scratches are seen around the S of TRUST.

Reverse is MDS – none noted.

DESCRIPTON: Letter distortion is seen on the P, R and B of PLURIBUS. Also seen is some distortion on the termini of the letters TES of STATES. The offset direction is approximately 060 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – a die gouge is seen in front of Lincoln’s nose.

Reverse is LDS – a scratch is seen in bay 5.

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines are seen from the tops of the letters in the EPU and the ATES of SATES. The offset direction is 060 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – a die gouge is seen to the left of the word IN.

Reverse is MDS – a light die scratch is seen in the bottom of bay 4.
