DESCRIPTION: Light to moderate step deviation is seen under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8, with an offset direction of 200 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – none observed.

Reverse is MDS – circular die damage on column 1. Small die gouge is seen to the left of the left post (urn).

DESCRIPTION: At first glance, this die does not seem that strong, however, step deviation reaches the bottom step. There is a strong fluting line under column 3 with strong to light step deviation under columns 4, 5, 6 and 7. The strength of the deviation tapers off to the right side of the reverse. Notice how the bottom steps are humped and corresponds to the columns. The offset direction is 190 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LMDS – small die gouge under Lincoln’s nose. a small die gouge on the B of VDB

Reverse is LMDS – none noted.

Stage “D”, obverse is LDS – The small die dot is still present on the B.

Reverse is LDS – the die chip in column 2, which affects bay 2.

NOTE: This is a major trail die.

DESCRIPTION: Light step deviation is seen under columns 5, 6 and 7.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – small die gouge below WE

Reverse is MDS – extra column of right side of Lincoln seated. Die crack in column 1. Die cracks in cornice over columns 4 and 8.

NOTE: With the extra column, this is a doubled die reverse.

DESCRIPTION: Light to moderate fluting line extension, into the stylobate, under columns 2 and 3. Moderate step deviation is seen under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8, with an offset direction of 190 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – small die gouge is seen under the first 0 of the date.

Reverse is MDS – die crack in the upper part of column 3.

DESCRIPTION: Light step deviation under columns 6 and 7, with emphasis on the left side.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – none observed.

Reverse is MDS – small die gouge by the left side of the U in UNITED. Extra column on the right of Lincoln seated.

NOTE: The extra column makes this a doubled die reverse.

Reverse is MDS – die scratch to the left of the left urn. Die gouge on the left side of the G in the designer’s initials.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – none observed.

Reverse is LDS – two die chips in column 2. Die gouge above the designer’s initials.

NOTE: This die found by Steven Bingham of Missouri.

DESCRIPTION: Moderate fluting line extension, into the styloabte, under columns 2 and 3. Moderate step deviation under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8, with an offset direction of 200°

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – small die dot behind Lincoln’s head.

Reverse is MDS – small die dots between column 12 and the A of AMERICA.

NOTE: This die was found by Joshua Haynes of Alabama.

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines are seen from the tops of the TED of UNITED, the first S in STATES, the E of one and the ENT of CENT. The offset direction is 240 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “D”, obverse is VLDS – three small, old die gouges under the word GOD.

Reverse is LDS – die gouge to the left of the T in UNITED.
