DESCRIPTION: Moderate fluting line extension, into the stylobate, under columns 1, 2 and 3. Moderate step deviation is seen under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8, with an offset direction of 200 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – small die gouge next to Lincoln’s eye. Small die scratch is seen below V.D.B.

Reverse is MDS – die chip in column 1. Die crack between the L U of PLURIBUS.

DESCRIPTION: Light step deviation is seen under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8, with emphasis on the left side.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “A”, obverse is EDS – none noted

Reverse is EDS – small die dot in the O of ONE. Die gouges under the A of STATES.

NOTE: This die was found by Patrick Gaughan of Pennsylvania.

DESCRIPTION: Isolated, dual directional trails are seen on the E of ONE. While this is the only design element affected on the die, it is still a trail die. The offset directions are 100º and 280º, which was more than likely the return path of the die’s motion.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – none noted.

Reverse is LDS – die crack in the cornice over bays 3 and 4.

DESCRIPTION: Light trail lines are seen from the tops of some of the letters in EPU. The offset direction is 350 degrees. This die was found by Louis Schaeffer of Maryland.

Reverse is LDS – die gouge below right base’s tip.

DESCRIPTION: Trails can be seen from the tops of the letters in EPU. The comparison dies an EDS and a MDS show the gradual strength reduction in the line intensity. The offset direction is 320 degrees. Louis Schaeffer of Maryland was the founder of this die.

DESCRIPTION: Light trail lines are seen from the tops of the letters in EPU, the last S is STATES and the ERI of AMERICA. The offset direction is 340 degrees. This die was found by Joe Koelling of North Carolina.

DESCRIPTION: Faint trail lines are seen from the bottom of the letters on the left side of EPU. The offset direction is 120 degrees.

DESCRIPTION: Faint trail lines are seen from the tops of the T and E of STATES, the E and first P of PLURIBUS and the first U of UNUM, the left cornice tip, the left upper base corner and the bottom of the N in ONE. The offset direction for all trail lines is 290 degrees.

DIE MARKER: Stage “A”, obverse is LEDS – small die dot above the W of WE. Die crack in Lincoln’s forehead.

Reverse is LEDS – none noted.

DESCRIPTION: Moderate trail Ines are seen from the MER of AMERICA, with faint trail lines seen from the tops of some of the letters in EPU and the right side scrolling on top of the cornice. Notice the crossover trails on the E and R of AMERICA.

DESCRIPTION: This trail die has two components; a working die wavy step and a working hub wavy step. The working die wavy step has fluting line extensions into the stylobate under columns 2 and 3. There is moderate to light step deviation under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8. The offset direction is 200 degrees.

The working hub wavy step can be seen as indents in the stairs under columns 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 and into the stylobate under columns 11 and 12.

Reverse is MDS – small die chip with a die crack in column 1. Die crack to the rim in the C of CENT.
