Presidential Dollar Reverse Dies With Trails

Description:  A single trails line with an offset direction of 010 degrees runs north from the number ‘1’ on the reverse.  This die was found by Bob Piazza of Florida.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “A” Obverse is EDS – None noted

Reverse is EDS – None noted

Stage “B” Obverse is MDS – A small die gouge next to the J of JEFFERSON.

Reverse is MDS – Small die cracks on either side of the base of the ‘1’.

 

2008P(JQA)-100DER-001T                      030°

DESCRIPTION: Light trail lines are seen from the ES of STATES and LIBERTY’S torch, with an offset direction of 030 degrees. This die was found by Mary Fantauzzo of New York.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – small die gouge between the 25 of 1825.

Reverse is MDS – die gouge in the field to the right of the T of STATES.

Stage “C”, obverse is LMDS – die crack in Adam’s head under the CY of QUINCY.

Reverse is LMDS – die gouge still in the field.

DESCRIPTION: Mushy trail lines are seen on the TES of STATES, Liberty’s torch and the AME of AMERICA. The offset direction is 030 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C“, obverse is LDS – a die dent is seen above the A of JAMES. The field around the bust of Polk does show signs of deterioration.

Reverse is LDS – none noted.

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines are seen from the letters UNITE of UNITED. Also seen is a faint trail line from the lower serif of the dollar sign. The offset direction is 140°.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C “, obverse is LDS – none noted

Reverse is LDS – a die crack is seen in the lower part of the dollar sign. A die crack with a die chip is seen in the right arm of the Statue of Liberty.

Coin

DESCRIPTION: Contains two sets of light trails; one set is mushy (created with less pressure) and is found on TES of STATES, of, the tops of the torch flames, the dollar symbol and AMERIC, they are offset 20 degrees and the other set is linear and trails off of ER of AMERICA and TE of STATES and is offset 280 degrees.

DIE MAKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS –crisscross abrasion marks are above and below Grant’s portrait.

Reverse is MDS – no distinct die markers found.

DESCRIPTION: This is a dual directional trail die. The first set of trail lines can be seen from the left top corners of the letters in UNITED. The offset direction for these trail lines is 180º. The second d set of trail lines is seen from the left top letters of AMERICA and the offset direction for these trails is 000º.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B“, obverse is MDS – a small die crack is seen from the S in USG to the rim

Reverse is MDS – a small die crack is seen from the D of PRESIDENT to the rim.

DESCRIPTION: Light trail lines are seen from the letters of TATES OF and the torches flames. The offset direction is 60 degrees. The obverse also has trails and is listed as 2011(JG)-100DEO-001T.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C“, obverse is LDS – Die crack in hair below M; die breaks in both 8s of 1881

 

Reverse is LDS – Die scratches through ED S (UNITED STATES); die crack across hand holding book.
