DESCRIPTION: Strong fluting line extension, into the stylobate, under columns 2 and 3. Strong step deviation under columns 5 through 8.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – none noted

Reverse is LDS – small die gouge between the N and E of ONE. A small die gouge is seen between the C and A of AMERICA. Small die gouge is seen to the right of the last A in AMERICA.

DESCRIPTION: Moderate fluting line extension, into the stylobate, under columns 2 and 3. Light step deviation under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8 with an offset direction of 200 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – die gouge over the L of LIBERTY.

Reverse is LDS – two die chips in column 2. A die chip is seen in column 3. Die chip on the left side of the left URN.

DESCRIPTION: Multiple, moderate fluting line extension, into the stylobate under columns 3, 11 and 12. Light step deviation under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – die dot in front of Lincoln’s nose.

Reverse is LDS – die chip in column 2.

DESCRIPTION: Moderate step deviation is seen under columns 5 through 8 with emphasis on the left side.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse – small die gouge between the T and Y and under the R of LIBERTY.

Reverse is MDS – die scratches in bays 8 and 9.

DESCRIPTION: Strong fluting line extension, into the stylobate, under columns 2 and 3. Moderate step deviation is seen under columns 5 through 8 with an offset direction of 190 degrees.

Reverse is MDS – die gouge by right cornice tip. Small die gouge is seen between the N and T of CENT.

Reverse is LDS – die gouge on the left bottom of the R in AMERICA. Die gouge on the left side of the O in ONE.

DESCRIPTION: Moderate fluting line extension, into the stylobate, under columns 2 and 3. Moderate step deviation is seen under columns 5 through 8 with an offset direction of 200 degrees. Also seen are trails from some of the letters in EPU.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – die gouge under the B and E of LIBERTY

Reverse is MDS – trails are seen on the N and E of ONE.

 

1998P-1DER-020T                                     330°

DESCRIPTION: Letter distortion on the tops of EPU with faint trails in an offset direction of 330 degrees.

Design extensions from the tops of the columns at 330 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – small die gouge under the second 9 of the date.

Reverse is LDS – die scratches through the right base tip and the designer’s initials.

Stage “D” This stage has the addition of die scrapes in bay 12.

NOTE: This die was discovered by Colleen Davis.
